报告人简介：

Dr. Yao received his BSc from Huazhong Agricultural University in 1983 and PhD from Massey University in 1993. He was appointed as a Scientist at the Horticulture and Food Research Institute of New Zealand Ltd in 1993, leading the apple transformation and fruit development research projects. Since 2008, he has served as a Senior Scientist, then Principal Scientist in Plant and Food Research that merged into BSI.

报告主要内容：

His research has been focused on developing efficient genetic transformation systems for tree species and analyzing gene function using these transformation systems together with modern genomics tools.  His team have identified genes controlling apple fruit size, shape, seedlessness, and texture, and genes controlling cambium and xylem development and wood quality. Professor Yao will present a fascinating academic feast for everyone based on his latest research findings.
